On 15–19 May, Kazan State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (KGASU) hosted the III final round of the All-Russian review competition of final qualifying works for the degree of bachelors in the program 08.03.01 Civil Engineering (specialization "Roads"), masters in the program 08.04.01 Civil Engineering (specialization "Roads"), specialty 08.05.02 Construction, operation, restoration and technical cover of roads, bridges and tunnels (specialization "Construction (reconstruction), operation and technical cover of roads"). According to the results of the II (regional) round, SPbGASU sent nine final qualifying works.

The competition was held in 20 nominations. Each final work was considered by the jury members and evaluated according to a point system. Points were awarded for the achievements of the contestants in approbation of the results of their work, such as the publication of articles, participation in exhibitions, competitions, olympiads, reports at conferences, the availability of patents for inventions and utility models.

In each nomination, the three works that scored the most points won prizes, and their authors were awarded diplomas.

Students of the Department of Roads, Bridges and Tunnels (DRBT) of our university received seven diplomas, three of which were for the first place.

The first places were won by: in the nomination "Airfields" - Anastasia Galkina (supervisor - senior lecturer at the DRBT Anna Simonova); in the nomination "Repair and maintenance of roads" - Elena Nikitina (supervisor - Associate Professor at the DRBT Vasily Radov); in the nomination "Repair and maintenance of transport facilities on the roads" - Ekaterina Bukurova (supervisor - Anna Simonova).

The second place in the nomination "Artificial structures in settlements" was awarded to Oleg Utenkov (supervisor - head of the DRBT Maria Klekovkina).

The third place in the nomination "Design of roads" was taken by Vladimir Novatorov (supervisor - Maria Klekovkina), in the nomination "Design of roads in difficult conditions" - Anna Secreteva (supervisor - Associate Professor at the DRBT Aleksandr Simanovsky), in the nomination "Construction of roads" - Sergey Ilyasov (supervisor - Anna Simonova).

In his work "Features of engineering transition curves designed for variable speed" Vladimir Novatorov automated the calculation and breakdown of the transition curve, consisting of two clothoids with different parameters (one of the ways to geometrically represent the "brake" transition curve), and also substantiated the economic efficiency of the application of this type of transition curve in a practical example.

“On public roads, inexperienced or aggressive, inaccurate drivers often turn out to be behind the wheel of a car, which can lead to an accident. The cause of these accidents in the vast majority of cases is the skidding of the car. It is possible to influence the geometry of the road and thereby give any driver a chance to slow down their vehicle more safely. The method of calculating and breaking down such geometry of the transition curve, analyzed and automated in my work, is not something new for domestic engineers and developers of regulatory documents, therefore, at least, it is worth paying attention to it. The application of the transition curve considered in my work may even turn out to be a cost-effective solution, ”said Vladimir.

The graduate plans to deepen the considered method of constructing a transition curve by introducing a larger number of clothoids with different parameters into it, which will make it possible to more accurately take into account and control the nature of the movement of vehicles.
