Every year on 17 February, the Day of Russian Student Squads is celebrated.

In 1949, the first construction squad was created at LISI (SPbGASU) to work on collective farms in the Lesogorsk region. It consisted of about 30 members.

In the summer of 1949, the Komsomol activists of the institute, numbering 87 members, went to the construction of the Klimovskaya hydroelectric power station in the Roshchinsky district of the Leningrad region.

The birthday of the modern squads movement is considered to be 17 February, 2004. On this day, they held the All-Russian Forum of student squads, dedicated to the 45th anniversary of the movement.

For many decades, student squads of LISI/SPbGASU have actively participated in labor and social activities. Today the headquarters unites nine student squads. Commissioner Aleksandra Shestakova talks about its work:

“The headquarters is a kind of connecting link between the squads themselves,  and between the squads and the university. We supervise squad activities and organize events within the university and at the city level. This year is an anniversary year for the SPbGASU student squads, so there are many plans. I would also like to attract more guys to our movement - meetings begin in February - and simply interact with students, implementing various projects. For me personally, squads are an opportunity for self-realization, and here you develop both organizational skills and people interaction skills. But first of all, for me, the squads are for the soul, because here there is a friendly atmosphere, active, caring people, those with whom you can do anything.”
