SPbGASU delegation visited the International Week at the LAB University of Applied Sciences
From February 10 to February 14, a traditional event was held in Finnish Lappeenranta, formerly known as “Saimaa Invites” International Week, which was held by Saimaa University of Applied Sciences. Last January, it merged with Lahti University of Applied Sciences to establish LAB University of Applied Sciences, and the week was named “Winter Wonderland - Green Campus”. Lecturers of the SPbGASU Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Economics and Management took part in the event of their long-term partners.Building of the new campus of LAB University of Applied Sciences
✔ Altogether, some 100 guests from 19 countries of the world attended the International Week. Within its framework, teachers got the opportunity to teach lectures and conduct practical classes in English for students of LAB University. In addition to the established university program, participants could organize lectures for their colleagues.
This year, guests were offered the following discussion topics:

- Presentation of the new LAB University of Applied Sciences, a conglomeration a union of Saimaa University of Applied Sciences and the University of Applied Sciences in Lahti
- Digitalization in higher education: pedagogical and administrative aspects
- Green campus - green progress (advanced environmental technologies at universities)
- Exchange of best practices between teachers and administrative staff of higher education institutions from different countries.
As part of the curriculum, the SPbGASU delegation members demonstrated the organization of the educational process at their university not only to students of LAB University of Applied Sciences but also to participants from other countries who attended lectures and practical classes. In addition, teachers from the faculty of civil engineering attended several events organized by LAB teachers to know better the organization of the educational process in the “Project Activities” and “BIM Fundamentals” courses.
The delegation of SPbGASU teachers, comprised of Professor Elena Chirkova, Dr. of Pedagogics; Senior Lecturer Aurika Potapchuk; Associate Professor Dmitry Zhivotov, Candidate of architecture; Associate Professor Olga Pastukh and Assistant Professor Alena Vedernikova, gained invaluable experience, improved general professional level, and also established new useful contacts.
The agenda also included presentations of articles prepared for publication on the basis of the International Week and a seminar on modern working methods of the faculty of the universities on “Teaching Technology and Pedagogy: Digital Learning Team”.

The members of the SPbGASU delegation paid special attention to the introduction of their university and invited colleagues from Belarus, Germany, Spain and Poland to cooperate with it. This concerns double degree programs, advanced training for faculty and practicing specialists in the courses of the SPbGASU Institute for Advanced Studies, participation in international conferences held at SPbGASU, such as “BIM-modeling in construction and architecture” (BIMAC-2020), “Reconstruction and restoration of architectural heritage” (RRAH-2020)," “Challenges of ‘green’ architecture and sustainable urban development, etc., and on the students practical training in the design through the case championships in modeling (“BIM on ice”) and participation in the university-based Smart City Project. A new project of the university, i.e., SPbGASU Summer Schools was also presented to foreign universities. The Summer School will be working in five areas at once: the Russian language, urban planning, BIM (HVAC & WCC), the transport system and industrial and civil construction.
The delegation of teachers thanks the organizers of the International Week, the leaders and staff of LAB University of Applied Sciences, as well as the SPbGASU leaders for the great opportunity to participate in such significant joint projects.
