SPbGASU honored the memory of students and teachers who died during the Great Patriotic War

Participants of the ceremony

On May 6, a solemn and commemorative ceremony was held at the memorial to students and staff of the university who died during the Great Patriotic War, which became part of the all-Russian action "Voice of Victory". The organizer of the action is the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation together with the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs.

More than 950 students, graduate students, teachers, employees and graduates of LISI went to the front, served in air defense units, and worked in hospitals. Only one in five of them returned from the war. The names of those who perished are listed on memorial plaques installed on the balustrade of the university.

The ceremony was opened by Vice-Rector for Youth Policy Irina Lugovskaia. “There are fewer and fewer witnesses to those events. A few years ago, on May 9, we congratulated about a hundred veterans – representatives of our university, but now their number has decreased. People leave, but the memory of them remains in the minds, hearts, books, films and documents of the era,” she said, emphasizing how grateful those gathered here are to the heroes of the past.

Participants of the creative workshop "Hofnarr's Attic" (Student Creativity Club "Kirpich") showed a stage performance, and then a minute of silence was announced.

At the end of the ceremony, the participants laid flowers at the memorial to the victims.
