SPbGASU Student won Russian Art Week

Aleksey Stratienko, second year student from the Faculty of Architecture, was one of the winners at 26 International Exhibition and Competition of Modern and Contemporary Art ‘Russian Art Week’ which was held from April 8 to 14, 2019, in Moscow.

Aleksey didn’t expect victory. He participated in the competition remotely and sent not the original works but their photos. One of them, a panoramic landscape, was too wide to fit the submission criteria.

Anyway, all his concerns were in vain and the ‘Panoramic Landscape with St Nicholas Naval Cathedral and St Isidore Church in Saint Petersburg’ took the first place in ‘Classical landscape’ category among students

Aleksey Stratienko: ‘The sepia landscape has been already done to the beginning of the competition. The students were asked to walk and sketch city views and it resulted in this work. I showed the historical part of the city without any modern buildings and added people dressed like in 19th century.

The participant works were exhibited in Exhibition Center of Russian Art Academy at Krymsky Val, Moscow. Later they will be included in the printed catalogue.

It is not the first victory for Aleksey. He has already won federal contest ‘Molodye darovania Rossii’ (‘Young Russian talents’) during his art school study.

Authors from 11 countries presented more than 1500 works for the competition. The jury consisted of Russian and international artists, art experts, gallerists and art producers.
