SPbGASU students were awarded at the largest passenger transport forum

The International Innovative Passenger Transport Forum SmartTRANSPORT, which took place at Expoforum from June 19 to June 21, 2019, was a landmark event for SPbGASU. Within the framework of the Forum, the SPbGASU student team that won the competition on May 28, 2019 in the case contest of the St. Petersburg Government Committee for Transport was awarded.

Winners of the transport case contest: Ivan Pechkurov, Marina Dunaeva and Alexandra Belova

Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Eduard V. Batanov presented the winners with awards and invited them to work in the structures of state transport management. In return, representatives of SPbGASU presented to the Committee for Transport the four best final qualifying works containing solutions to topical city transport issues.

The head of the SPbGASU Department of Transport Systems Alexander I. Solodky took part in the Forum as a moderator. Professor of the TS Department of SPbGASU Andrey E. Gorev made presentation on transport servicing and the priority of public transport.

”The priority of public transport gives a double effect. Buses will not get stuck in traffic jams. There will be no need to build additional roads and flyovers. Passengers will understand that they can get faster to where they need by bus than in their own car. And the fewer personal cars, the better is the environment,” Gorev said.

In the opinion of A.E. Gorev, SmartTRANSPORT Forum is the largest exhibition of public transport, where the newest models and technologies are shown. An extensive business program provided an opportunity to discuss various aspects of the transport operation, public transport services, and building route networks. Currently, there is a clear trend of electrification of urban transport. Launching of a pilot hydrogen tram is scheduled for next September: instead of batteries, electricity in it will be generated by hydrogen batteries.
