On 25–26 January, the Baltic State Technical University "Voenmekh" named after. D. F. Ustinov hosted the international scientific and practical conference “The Siege of Leningrad: the historical feat of the people for the sake of Victory and its reflection in domestic and foreign historiography”.

At the plenary and sectional sessions of the conference, they discussed attempts by some Western researchers to revise the history of the siege of Leningrad and the role of those events in World War II, and considered ways to counter the falsification of history. Those gathered developed scientific and practical recommendations for school teachers and university professors on improving the historical education of students and extracurricular military-patriotic educational work.

SPbGASU students in the field of study “Technosphere Safety” under the guidance of Associate Professor at the Department of Technosphere Safety Aleksandr Glukhanov took an active part in the conference. Presentations were made by Elena Ozerova (first year), Polina Chiryaeva, Polina Golenkova (second year), Marina Erdneeva, Karina Somryakova, Elena Abashina (third year), as well as first-year master's students Nikita Rozkaliy and Veronika Fiskova.

“One of the important tasks of the university teachers is the civic and patriotic education of students. The Battle of Leningrad, the heroic 900-day defense and siege of Leningrad, which has become not only part of public consciousness, but also the heritage of world history, will forever remain in the memory of generations. The conference greatly expands the horizons of students, improves their ability to comprehend and comprehensively analyze the problems of the history of the Great Patriotic War in general, the defense and siege of Leningrad in particular. Conditions are created for more productive development of historical knowledge, skills in working with information and historical sources are developed. All this contributes to the formation of such social and spiritual values as patriotism, citizenship, interest in the history of the Fatherland,” noted Aleksandr Glukhanov.
