"FireWall," a team of students from the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, took second place in an all-Russian competition for the best digital solution utilizing artificial intelligence technologies in the field of occupational health and industrial safety. The competition final was held on 10 October, 2026, in the "Sirius" federal territory as part of Youth Day at the XI All-Russian Occupational Health and Safety Week (VNOT-2026).

The All-Russian Occupational Health and Safety Week is one of the largest industry events focused on worker safety, the improvement of working conditions, and the implementation of modern technologies in the workplace. This year, the forum took place from 7 to 10 October, bringing together representatives from government authorities, the scientific and academic communities, industrial enterprises, and young professionals.

The Youth Day included the final stage of a competition for digital solutions focused on developing innovative approaches to occupational health and industrial safety. A team from our university successfully passed the preliminary selection round and presented their project, "ACOUSTIC-DETECTOR-1," to a panel of experts; it is a system for the acoustic predictive diagnostics of industrial equipment. The students' innovation addresses a critical issue in industrial safety: the timely detection of technical malfunctions that could otherwise lead to accidents, worker injuries, or the disruption of production processes.

The project is based on acoustic monitoring technology: operating machinery generates specific sound signals and vibrations, the parameters of which may change when defects occur. The proposed system utilizes industrial microphones and vibration sensors to continuously collect data on the condition of the equipment. This data is processed using artificial intelligence algorithms that detect deviations from normal operating parameters and enable the prediction of potential mechanical failures. The monitoring results are displayed via a digital interface, featuring an interactive layout of the production facility with color-coded indicators showing the status of the equipment.

According to the developers, the system will enable the detection of malfunctions at an early stage, reduce the risk of accidents, and optimize maintenance costs. The technology is designed for use in various industrial settings, including oil and gas pumping stations and metallurgical plants, as well as in the operation of construction cranes and lifting equipment.

The university was represented in the competition by third-year students majoring in Technosphere Safety: Elena Vaulina (project lead, designer), Aleksandra Vavulova (project manager), Aleksey Shulga (business analyst), and Konstantin Voronov (DevOps engineer). The student team was led by Aleksandr Dmitriev, director of the "Smart Labor" training site and a senior lecturer at the SPbGASU Department of Technosphere Safety. Under his guidance, the students presented their project in the competition final.

During the project, the participants combined their expertise in industrial safety, digital technologies, and project management. In addition to a technical concept, the team developed a visualization of the system’s user interface and presented potential scenarios for its application in actual production environments.

Following the final stage of the competition, the project "ACOUSTIC-DETECTOR-1" was awarded second place.

The success of the SPbGASU students demonstrates the potential for applying interdisciplinary knowledge to address practical challenges in industrial safety. The project they developed reflects a promising direction in the evolution of occupational health and safety technologies, focused on preventing workplace risks through continuous monitoring and intelligent data analysis.

We congratulate the FireWall team on winning the prize and wish them further success in implementing the project!
