On February 12 and 13, Associate Professor of the department of history and philosophy Sergey Kargapoltsev held lessons of courage in the study groups of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

He told students how Soviet troops performed combat missions to counter the Afghan armed opposition.

The listeners learned that the militant coalition comprised numerous armed groups and gangs, including al-Qaida terrorists (banned in Russia). The fight against them at the approaches to the USSR was important for the security of our country, for peace and order in the region. upon completing the international mission, Soviet troops were withdrawn. The military operation cost significant losses: more than 15 thousand dead, 54 thousand wounded and almost 500 missing.

Besides this, on February 13, SPbGASU students visited an exhibition dedicated to the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan at the Admiralteysky District Administration.
