✔ The contest was held from October 15 to December 9. The organizer was the Information and Analytical Center of the State Commission for the Development of the Arctic. The partners were the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, the Ministry of Construction of Russia, the Government of the Arkhangelsk Region, Public Law Company REO (Russian Environmental Operator) and the regional operator of the Arkhangelsk Region - EcoIntegrator LLC.

“Environmental pollution is especially destructive for the Arctic and northern regions of Russia. One of the problems is the lack of infrastructure and waste collection sites that meet the climatic and weather conditions of the region. We decided to take part in the competition because we are not indifferent to this problem,” said Veronika Andrienko.

According to Veronika, work on the project began with an analysis of the territory problems. During the design process, the authors adapted the container site to the conditions of the North: increased wind and snow loads, low temperatures, remote regions. In addition, it was necessary to resolve issues related to the under-developed technologies for the separate collection of waste.

“The competition left the most pleasant impressions. It was all within our scope of abilities, although we faced some difficulties. We were inspired by the Russian North nature and the White Sea patterns, which we made part of the decorative design of the project,” said Lev Svetlichny.

According to him, participation in the competition provided with new knowledge and experience, acquaintances and impressions. Students had the opportunity to converse with the chief architect of the ASADOV design bureau Nikita Asadov, the head of the Federal Project Office "Development of a Comfortable Urban Environment" of the Project Directorate of the Ministry of Construction of Russia Dzhemal Surmanidze, the project manager of the regional development department of the ANCO "Information and Analytical Center of the State Commission for the Development of the Arctic" Irina Krasnoperova , the official representative of the Federation of Landscape Architects of France in Russia Irina Garnier.

According to Ekaterina Malakhova, the competition was not easy: in addition to solving the main task, it was necessary to create an attractive architectural image of the object.

“Participation in competitions makes it possible not only to express an idea on paper, but also to bring your project to life. This should inspire not only practicing architects, but also students,” Ekaterina ensures.

One of the competition finalists' projects will be proposed for implementation in the city of Arkhangelsk in 2022.
