Saint Petersburg – Yerevan: new horizons of cooperation

On April, 29 – May, 02, 2015 within the framework of the Days of Saint Petersburg in Yerevan an official delegation of our city at the head of Mayor Georgy Poltavchenko visited the capital city of Armenia. One of the delegates is a representative of Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering, vice-rector for scientific-production and innovation activity Valery E. Gordienko.

The official visit is aimed at extension and strengthening of cooperation between Saint Petersburg and Armenia including cooperation in science and higher school. A round table discussion devoted to this topic took place on April 30, 2015. In the round table discussion there took part directors of Saint Petersburg and Yerevan higher education institutions: each guest-university had a mirror reflection as a university of the corresponding profile. Everyone had a chance to introduce oneself, tell about one’s activity and ideas. Life is constantly changing; today it is impossible to set an efficient education and scientific activity without keeping contact with colleagues. That is why higher education institutions really need exchange of students, professors, lectures, articles. Co-authored publications, advanced training and many other cooperation activities are of great importance. And all the participants expressed their wish to work in these fields.

V.E. Gordienko made a report “Integration of Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering in science and education”. There was made a presentation of the University, its faculties and scientific-production departments , participation of the higher education institution in reconstruction of the most famous buildings of historic districts – such as Mariinsky theatre, Mikhailov castle, Library of the Academy of sciences, Winter Palace, National mining state university, Saint Petersburg state university, Academy theatre named after V.F. Komissarzhevskaya, “Europe” hotel. Participants of the round-table discussions also got acquainted with modern projects of the university and best students’ works.

As a result of the visit a number of government and nongovernment agreements were signed. Saint Petersburg and Yerevan are twin-cities now as they are connected by long-standing cultural and business relations. After the official meetings these relations have become even stronger and new development areas have been defined.
