Young intellectuals got together at SPbGASU

On February 5, SPbGASU hosted the participants of the12th All-Russian Educational Forum “Young Intellectuals – 2020”, dedicated to the Day of Russian Science. Its delegates were 163 representatives of 21 schools and colleges from 15 cities and 14 regions of the country.

On behalf of the rector of SPbGASU Yevgeny Rybnov, the vice-rector for academic affairs Svetlana Golovina greeted the contestants: “I wish you take a fancy for returning to St. Petersburg, and some of you might become our students,” she emphasized.

“We will determine the winners based on the results of the forum, present diplomas and medals. The best teams will be awarded with cups. But regardless of the results, everyone will receive a certificate of participation, and this already is your small victory. You will gain invaluable experience in addressing an audience and testing your knowledge; you will get to know our city and find new friends. We want you to remember this forum for a long time. And, who knows, maybe for someone it will become momentous,” said the chairman of the organizing committee, director of the St. Petersburg International Center for Education without Borders Sergey Magkaev.


✔ The organizers of the forum were: the Petersburg Education Interregional Multidisciplinary Center; the St. Petersburg International Center for Education without Borders; the Council of Municipalities of St. Petersburg; civil and military universities of the city with the support of the Russian Academy of Military Sciences and the Maritime Council under the government of St. Petersburg.


Chairman of the Council of Municipalities of St. Petersburg Vsevolod Belikov sent his greetings to the participants. Natalya Polupanova, director of the St. Petersburg Education Center, read out greeting from the rector of Admiral Makarov State University of the Sea and River Fleet Sergey Baryshnikov.

As part of the grand opening, the participating teams of the forum made presentations followed by a concert prepared by the SPbGASU “Brick” Club of Student Leisure and Creativity.

Irina Lugovskaya, Vice-Rector for International Relations of SPbGASU, described the international activities of the university: “SPbGASU maintains partnerships with 72 foreign universities, research and educational centers and companies from 29 countries. One of the main tasks of the university’s international activities is the enhancement of international academic mobility. It is implemented mainly through double degree programs and the Erasmus + international exchange program. In addition, such forms of international academic mobility of students as internship, practical training, and participation in international summer schools are actively promoted.”

During the forum, the admission committee of SPbGASU held a round table for the heads of delegations, to discuss the rules for admission to universities in 2020 and other relevant issues.

Oksana Shutova, a specialist of the Office of Education Quality Assessment, spoke about the history of the university, its achievements and projects created by its graduates. Training in BIM-technologies at SPbGASU was the topic of the speech of the Head of the Department of Information Technologies Alexei Semenov. Irina Nuryeva, Head of the Department of Social and Extracurricular Work with Students, made an overview of the most significant student projects.

Victoria Hirkhasova, an assistant professor at the Department of Building Materials Technology and Metrology, a graduate of SPbGASU, and Artyom Bespalov, a second-year student, spoke about their studies at the university, and the great opportunities for professional development it provides.

The participants’ program included intellectual competitions in general subjects, excursions around the university and informative master classes.

One of them, entitled “What to become to enjoy your job”, was conducted by associate professor of the Department of Land Transport and Technological Vehicles Nikolai Podoprigora. The listeners could learn about the ways to choose a profession and why communication is the most valuable skill.

At other classes, they learned to draw a cityscape, got acquainted with the car engine, the work of a criminalist and other fascinating topics.

We asked guests to share their impressions of what they saw and their plans.

“I really liked it here. I have not yet chosen my future profession, but such events help to do this,” said Danila Generalov from the 8th grade of one of the St. Petersburg gymnasiums.

“The most exciting were the presentations of various teams. I haven’t yet decided what to be, but I want to have a job useful for society,” said Izatullo Dzhumaev, 6th grade student from Kirovograd, Sverdlovsk Region.
