International cooperation on extending the usage of wood in construction

On February, 23 there took place the international seminar in Saint-Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the chair of wooden and plastic constructions. The Association of wooden house building and the Delegation of Swedish business men occupied in the sphere of woodworking; representatives of single-family and multi-storied house building; and professors and students of the Swedish University of Agriculture Sciences participated in the seminar.
The meeting was held in the amicable atmosphere. Head of the chair of wooden and plastic constructions Chernykh A.G., general director of the Association reported about Saint-Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering and about the history and perspectives of developing wooden house building in Russia. FSS President Krister Falgrin presented his Council, and the character of its activities. Development director of Ltd. “Paletmaster” Pavel Lukich presented a new thermally modified bar for using in wooden house building. Being of 6% moisture it is not subjected to shrinkage and swelling. Anatolii Sheinov reported about the situation which sawing industry has faced and suggested that they should exchange the experience in maintaining of small sawing organizations processing up to 50 cu. m. of round wood a year.
Aleksandr Zhuravlev presented an innovation project maintained in Pskovskaya oblast' which among other activities will handle a deep wood processing. During 2 hours Russian and Swedish participants of the seminar exchanged their information about the technical, commercial and adequate development of wooden house building and wood-processing industry. Swedish businessmen paid attention to the fact that wooden bridges currently are not being built in Russia while it's a very interesting trend in using wood. They also discussed the questions concerning vocational guidance of students and the attractiveness of professions related to wood-processing and wooden house building.
     
As the result of the discussions the participants agreed to cooperate on the following questions:

• Cooperation on extending the usage of wood in the sphere of construction, experience exchange.

• Consultations on national standards concerning materials used in wooden house building and technologies applied in wooden multi-storied building construction.

• Realization of mutual scientific projects, student exchange programs and web consultations of experts in the sphere of wooden house building.

• Information exchange on international projects relating to the development of green construction.

• Assistance in organizing study business-tours for representatives of professional councils FSS and ADD in Sweden and in Russia.
     
At the end of the seminar the participants exchanged souvenirs and expressed their wish for mutually beneficial cooperation.
