Student squads are rightfully considered the best youth movement in the country. Born in the Soviet years, the squads movement is engaged in the labor education of students, gives them experience in direct work in production.
The history of student squads dates back to the 50s of the last century, when the country was rising fr om the post-war ruins. Currently, headquarters exist in 75 regions of Russia. There are more than 80 squads in the SQs headquarters of the St Petersburg.
The main task of the squads is to provide students with work during the summer holidays. But even during classes time, construction teams are active. The guys reveal their talents, learn something useful, communicate and make friends. Moreover, each squad is unique. Each has its own traditions, symbols, songs.
SPbGASU сonstruction squads took part in such all-Russian student construction projects as Pomorye (Plesetsk Cosmodrome, Mirny, Arkhangelsk Region), Academichesky (Ekaterinburg), MOESK Rosseti (Moscow), worked on construction sites in the Far North (New Port and Korotchaevo settlement, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug), as well as at the Leningrad NPP.
The university also has two pedagogical squads. "Arlekino" has been going on summer, autumn, winter, spring shifts during the holidays for the eighth year already. The second pedagogical squad is very young, it is called "Svoboda". By educating the younger generation, the guys discover themselves from new sides and develop in creativity and leadership, because the leader must be able to do absolutely everything.
SPbGASU has a student archaeological team "Lin'". Inspired by the secrets of history and the romance of nights under the starry sky, the guys managed to visit excavations in the Crimea and Tuva.
In addition, a student agricultural squad "Hermes" was created last year. The members worked on harvesting in the southern regions of the country.
