Participants in the master class got acquainted with the basic principles of making prints using the engraving on cardboard as an example; saw the process of creating an original work of printed graphics: from sketching and form making to printing a small print run.

Examples of finished works

The printing form for such an engraving is made of cardboard, on which the image cut out from a Whatman paper or a self-adhesive film is attached to by the application method. The application technique is convenient for the compositional construction of the work: the cut-out elements can be moved on a plane; their shapes can be changed or replaced with other ones. Then the finished form is covered with a thin layer of paint with the use of a foam sponge; after that the printing process begins. A piece of paper is placed on top, and then carefully rolled with a roller, after what the paper with the resulting image can be removed.

Production process

“The technique of engraving on cardboard is equally interesting for children, youth and adults. It opens up new opportunities for creativity for both professional artists and students in the field of fine arts, with whom it is very important and interesting for me to share my experience. The advantages of this method are interesting textured effects, the ability to experiment, and the availability of materials. I have been conducting such classes for all kinds of audiences for many years,” said Konstantin Konstantinov.

“Students’ work in various print techniques helps them better understand and consolidate knowledge and skills in the field of composition, formed in the process of learning drawing and painting. In addition, student architects must learn to carefully think through the technical side of the work in order to accurately reach the planned result. Finally, such classes help everyone to develop their own individual style in architectural graphics, which is particularly important in connection with various international competitions in this area. Students can present works performed in various print techniques at relevant events. So, for example, annually at the Department of Drawing at the end of the fall semester, we hold the exhibition of “Creative Graphics of SPbGASU Students’,” - shared her impressions on the master class assistant professor of the department of drawing Elena Chernaya.{gallery name="Мастер-класс Константинова 032020"}
