Currently, highly qualified teachers work at the Department, including: adviser to the RAACS, honorary workers of higher professional education, laureate of awards from the government of the Russian Federation, full member of the International Academy "Information, communication, control in technology, nature, society", doctors and candidates of sciences.
The Department runs doctoral, PhD and master's programs. The Department conducts the disciplines "Reinforced concrete and masonry constructions", "Reinforced concrete constructions of high-rise and large-span buildings and structures", "Research and design of reinforced concrete structures" and others for students of construction specialties. In the educational process, modern calculation software systems (SCAD, ANSYS, LIRA, SAP2000, ETABS) are widely used.

The Department dates back to 1930, when it was formed as an independent department at the Leningrad Institute of Municipal Construction. During its history, the department has trained over two thousand specialists.
In addition to teaching Russian citizens, the staff of the Department has trained dozens of graduates for the countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America.
The Department conducts active research in the field of high-strength fiber-reinforced concrete, the effective use of high-strength reinforcement, the development of new structures from dispersion-reinforced concrete for new energy, construction and special technologies.
Employees of the department are actively engaged in contractual activities in the field of design and inspection of constructions of buildings and structures.
